Kenny makes his bow as Mayo boss

It has been changing times in Mayo over the past few years and one person who has seen more change than most has been Brendan Kenny. The Ballina Town manager only took over the post on a part time basis until a new boss was to be appointed a couple of years ago, but he has hung on in there. His first few months in charge saw Town go on a long journey to the latter stages of FAI Junior Cup. This season his north Mayo charges have the Super League in their grasp thanks to a comfortable win over Manulla last weekend. Win their last league game of the season and the deal is done, nothing the chasing Westport United men can do about it.

Cold snap sees games delayed

The cold snap that has taken over the country saw a number of games called off in Mayo soccer circles, going back as far as the Oscar Traynor Cup clash between Galway and Mayo at the tail end of December, that game has now been fixed for Sunday January 17 in Milebush Park.

Kenny’s men go after tribesmen

This was all supposed to be taken care of by now, but the weather set in and Mayo’s Oscar Traynor trip to Terryland was called, off then it was supposed to take place in Milebush and that had to be pulled too. That was before Christmas and now on Sunday, weather permitting, Brendan Kenny’s Mayo side will be able to try to book their place in the knock out stages of the Oscar Traynor Trophy. Mayo have been handed home advantage for the tie, due to the original postponement.

FAI Junior cup finally ready for action

Following on from the controversy that saw Mayo eliminated from the Oscar Traynor Cup last weekend at the hands of a controversial Galway League goal, it is back to the local scene for Mayo soccer this weekend with three games in the FAI Junior Cup and finally the end of the Elvery’s Sports Super League.
